Board Member Application

Purpose: To advise, govern, oversee policy and direction, assist with the leadership and general promotion of the Friends of Silver Falls to support the mission and needs of the organization.

Mission Statement:

  • To further the educational and interpretive opportunities available to park visitors.

  • To promote, preserve, and enhance the historical, natural, and recreational resources within the park.

  • To assist with park improvements and educational programs compatible with the nature of Silver Falls State Park.

Board Member Responsibilities:

Members of the board share these responsibilities while acting in the interest of the Friends of Silver Falls. Each member is expected to make recommendations based their experience and vantage point in the community.

  • Organizational leadership and advisement

  • Formulation and oversight of policies and procedures

  • Financial management, including adoption and oversight of the annual budget

  • Oversight of program planning and evaluation

  • Personnel evaluation and staff development

  • Review of organizational and programmatic reports

  • Promotion of the organization

  • Fundraising and outreach

  • Evaluate annually the performance of the organization in achieving its mission

Length of term: Three years. A director may be eligible for a subsequent three year term with approval and election by the current Board membership.

Meetings and time commitment:

  • The board of directors meets monthly.

  • Committees of the board meet as needed, pending their respective work agenda.

  • Absence of four (4) regularly scheduled meetings in one calendar year shall result in an inquiry as to the continued participation of the board member. The board will make the final decision as to whether or not the member remains on the board.

Expectations of board members:

  • Attend and participate in meetings on a regular basis, and special events as able.

  • Participate on a standing committee of the board, and serve on ad-hoc committees as necessary.

  • Become familiar with Friends of Silver Falls finances, budget, and financial/resource needs.

  • Understand the policies and procedures of the Friends of Silver Falls.

  • Maintain familiarity with Silver Falls State Park operations, facilities, and staffing.
